I’ve heard it preached for years that if Jesus is in your boat, it won’t sink; and if Jesus is in your storm, He will calm it. But that’s not what Jesus said. He said, “Let us go to the other side.” Actually, Jesus was one of thirteen preachers in that ship, for the twelve disciples were with Him. All were ministry gifts. He had recently ordained them into the ministry and anointed them. He had given them power. Jesus was asleep in the boat when the storm arose. The Lord spoke to me once and said, “My voice is softer than the breeze, but it’s louder than the storm.” That means, if you’re sensitive to what God’s still, small voice in you is saying, in the middle of a loud storm, His voice will be more real to you than anything around you. That’s why Jesus was asleep: He was full of the power of God.
Therefore, whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock. ~Matthew 7:24 NKJV
The person who builds with the Word of God will withstand the winds of contradiction and the tremors of challenge. When opposition shakes the ground of the righteous, they will remain unmoved. While a thousand may fall at their side and ten thousand at their right hand, they will not go down (Psalm 91:7). Jesus said that those who hear His Word and do His Word are like a house built on a foundation of rock. Even when the rains descend and the forecast looks bleak, the righteous will stand with a testimony. Not even the floods will carry their victory away.
And the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. ~ Matthew 7:25 NKJV
The rains will descend, the winds will blow and the floods will come. Just as surely as storm clouds gather, opposing forces and destroying spirits will come against your position, property and God-given rights. The enemy will attack, but through the Word of God, you are well equipped to withstand the deluge. He may come against you one way, but he will flee before you in seven (Deuteronomy 28:7).
When the believer builds upon the Word of God, no weapon in the kingdom of darkness can move them from their foundation. What you build in God will withstand the test of time. In the end, everyone who mocked and prophesied demise will have to testify to your triumph. After the smoke has settled and the dust has cleared, you will remain standing, just as steadfast as before the rain.
Those that are built upon the Word can never fail.
But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: And the rains descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall. ~ Matthew 7:26-27 NKJV
Those that build on sand will shift with the passing wind. When the circumstance boasts of downpour and feelings rise and swell beyond their banks, those that are built on shaky ground will see calamity and destruction. Their downfall will be swift. The Word of God is a rock that cannot be moved. It is a fortress of preservation, safety and security. The one that builds their life on it will stand against the storm.
